Privacy Policy

Last updated 6 September 2026
The short version. Valette runs entirely inside your browser. The planner never uploads your transcript: it is read on your device and stays there. There is no account and no login. We cannot see your courses, your grades or your GPA, because they are never transmitted anywhere. The only way a file ever reaches us is if you deliberately attach one to the contact form, which is a separate, optional thing you choose to do. See section 3.

1. Who we are

Valette is a degree-planning tool for Mississippi State University students, built by Valette Labs. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Mississippi State University. Contact: support@valettedegree.com.

2. What happens to your transcript

When you drop a transcript onto Valette, the file is read and parsed by code running in your own browser. The file is not uploaded. No copy of it, and no data extracted from it, is sent to us or to anyone else. This is true of the planner however you use it, and it is not changed by anything in section 3.

What Valette extracts (course codes, titles, credit hours, grades and terms) is saved in your browser's local storage so your work is still there when you come back. That storage belongs to your browser on your device. We have no access to it.

3. If you choose to send us a sample transcript

The contact form has an optional file field, shown only when you are asking us to support a school we do not cover yet or telling us a transcript did not read correctly. It exists for one reason: every university lays its transcript out differently, and a real example is the only reliable way to teach Valette to read a school it has never seen.

It is entirely optional. Nothing else on that form needs it, and the form sends fine without it. If you do attach a file:

This is the one and only route by which a transcript file can reach us, and it requires you to attach it on purpose. Dropping a transcript into the planner never does.

4. Clearing your data

Use Clear saved data on the Courses page. That removes everything Valette has stored, immediately and permanently. Clearing your browser's site data does the same. Because we never held a copy, there is nothing for us to delete on our side and no request you need to make.

5. What we do collect

Our host, Netlify, records standard server logs for the requests that serve the site: IP address, approximate time, the page requested, and browser type. These are used to keep the site running and to spot abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you.

There is no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking on Valette. We set no cookies of our own.

6. Third parties

That is the complete list. Nothing else is loaded, and no data about you is shared with anyone.

7. Where the course information comes from

Degree requirements come from Mississippi State's public course catalog. Class times and seat counts come from MSU's public class schedule. Both are public information about courses, not about people, and both are snapshots that can fall out of date.

8. FERPA

FERPA governs how schools handle student education records. Valette is not a school and is not a school official. When you use the planner, you are reading your own transcript on your own device with a tool that happens to run in a browser tab: nothing you do there discloses your records to us or to anyone else.

The one exception is the optional sample file described in section 3, and it is an exception worth stating plainly rather than leaving to be discovered. If you attach a transcript there, you are voluntarily sending us a copy of your own record. Your school is not disclosing anything, and you decide what is on the page before you send it. That is why we ask you to remove your name, student ID and date of birth first, why the field appears only for the two requests it actually helps with, and why we delete it whenever you ask.

9. Children

Valette is intended for university students. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

10. Accuracy, and why it matters here

Valette can be wrong. Course data is extracted from published sources and can be incomplete or out of date, and a degree audit is not an official one. Always confirm with your academic advisor and with DegreeWorks before you register, drop, or rely on a graduation date.

11. Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted on the site.
